What is it? An opportunity to help the Longhouse residents care for the site they generously share with us each month. It’s a chance to get to know some OLOTEAS staff and other volunteers a little better, observe the changing seasons and wildlife before the site opens, burn a few extra calories while you work, and have fun knowing your time is well spent supporting the Longhouse and OLOTEAS. In addition, we’ll feed you lunch and you’ll be first in line for the pool and hot tub when they open!
Singing and Chanting in the Stone Circle 1:00 PM, with Dana
Continue the oral tradition of Pagan chants and songs before our Opening Circle. Don’t worry if you don’t know any yet! (In the event of pouring rain, we’ll meet in the Meditation Room.)
2:00 PM Workshop: “Sacred Dance in Theory and Practice” with Cyndie Lea, Stephanie, and Jane; Meditation Room or Large Outdoor Tent
How does dance contribute to the experience of ritual and spiritual practice? Come discuss different types of sacred movement, learn a few moves, and get your holy groove on! If you like, bring dance belts, scarves, veils, drums, finger cymbals, dance bells, etc. to help you get moving.
Michael Osiris Snuffin
Author and editor Michael Osiris Snuffin has studied and practiced various forms of occultism for over fifteen years, with particular interest in the Golden Dawn, Post-OTO Thelema, Sorcery, and Chaos Magick. He looks forward to the rerelease of his second book, The Complete Conjuring Spirits, rewritten and expanded to include more information on the Art of Archangelic, Goetic, and Enochian Sorcery. Osiris has also authored The Thoth Companion (Llewellyn, 2007), an in-depth analysis of the symbolism in Aleister Crowley’s Thoth tarot. He lectures and writes about Thelema, sorcery, tarot, and other occult subjects, and has published some of his work at www.hermetic.com/osiris.
3:00 PM Workshop: “The Mechanics of Sorcery” Blockhouse
In this lecture, Osiris will present a model to explain how the spirit world works, how it affects us, and how we can interact with it. We will look at the theory of Sorcery in order to gain a better understanding of the practical work involved.
Younglings’ Workshop: (with Ruthie) 3:30-4:30 Meditation Room/Front Lawn: Fairy Tea Party
As the wheel turns and the veil thins, all younglings are welcome to join us for a blessed Beltaine fairy tea party! Come rejoice in yummy treats, bubbles and beautiful shiny things.
4:30 Maypole Dance, Stone Circle Lawn
A Beltaine Tradition! Come dance the May Pole to celebrate spring and give energy to the Earth’s fertility. Don’t know how to do a May Pole dance? Don’t worry, join us to learn!
5:00 Newcomers’ Orientation (with Stephanie), Community Altar Space
If this is your first time at a Pagan event, or first visit to an OLOTEAS service, please join us for a short introduction, find out what to expect in ritual, and ask any questions you may have.
5:45 Pre ritual discussion and Maui Snares the Sun ritual (with Jane).
May Day is Lei Day in Hawai`i
Garlands of flowers everywhere
All of the colors in the rainbow
Maidens with blossoms in their hair
Flowers that mean we should be happy
Throwing aside a load of care
Oh, May Day is Lei Day in Hawai`i
May Day is happy days out there
In winter, the Sun passes so quickly through the sky; there has hardly been any time for the plants to grow or for the people to enjoy the sunshine during their workday. Luckily for us, the Sun slows his passage during the summer so that there is more daylight for work and for play. But how did this come to be? Join us and walk in the footsteps of the legendary Polynesian trickster, Maui.
Immediately Following Ritual: Potluck Feast with Pick of the Potluck Contest:
Bring your best recipes for the community to sample and select their favorites! Prizes will be awarded for best entrée, best salad/appetizer, and best dessert.
Catie Holstein
Catie is a Critical Care Paramedic, SEI, and the founder of the Antares Eclectic Georgian Tradition of Wicca.
8:00 PM Workshop: “Endocrines and Chakras, Making a Body/Mind Connection” Blockhouse
While there is no scientific evidence to support the metaphysical connection of the chakras to the endocrine glands, there are those who have drawn similarities between the two systems that are worthy of noting. Increasing your awareness of ways to make a body/mind connection could improve your physical and mental states and strengthen your magickal practice. Join me for a short time and I’ll introduce you to the endocrine system of the body, review typical pathological conditions of the endocrine system, discuss how the endocrine system correlates to the chakras, give some suggestions on how to balance the two, and finish our time together with some group work for retention of the information.
9:00 – 10:00 PM Politics & Religion Coffee Klatch (with
Kimberly) at the Potluck Tables, by the Kitchen
Religion and politics—two things we aren’t supposed to discuss
in public, but they’re all over the news today. Are you interested in an
open but moderated discussion in a safe, respectful space? Come to the Coffee Klatch!
What to Bring:
Snacks for yourself, a potluck item to share, and your own feast gear (plate, cup, utensils), as on-site supplies are limited. No meat may be prepared on the kitchen surfaces (pre-cooked meat is acceptable). No alcohol or other intoxicants are allowed at OLOTEAS events. You might also want to bring a towel for pool/hot tub use (note: the pool area is clothing-optional). Shoes cannot be worn inside, so please wear a pair that can be slipped easily on and off. We strive to do the main ritual outside, regardless of weather, so please bring layered clothing for colder/wetter weather if desired. Feel free to bring and play your drums or other instruments. Also, please note that, due to allergy and wildlife concerns, no pets are allowed on site (except service animals).
Registration:
For this event, we request a donation of $10.00 for adults, $5.00 for young adults ages 13-17, and $2.00 for children 2-12; this includes all aspects of the event. It is important for event and ritual planning that *all* people check in at the front door. Please do not arrive before 1:00 PM unless you want to attend the stewardship party at 10:00 AM, or you are a vendor arriving early to set up your booth.
A Note About Children:
This site features a swimming pool, hot tub, and numerous natural outside features that pose potential risks for unattended children; therefore, children MUST be under adult supervision (in line-of-sight) at ALL times during this event. With respect to the pool, an individual adult may be responsible FOR NO MORE THAN 3 CHILDREN (those 13 and under). Other than the kids’ workshop (when offered), there are no organized children’s activities, although there are games and crafts for kids.
A Note About Noise at the Longhouse:
The Longhouse requires that participants keep the noise level very low after 10:00 PM. Loud noise includes car alarms (so make sure your alarm is turned off), car muffler issues or backfiring (if your vehicle has issues, please park at the top of the hill parking lot), loud motorcycle engines (again, please park at the top of the hill parking lot), drumming or other music (if it continues long after ritual, please stop and ask a staff member if there is a space indoors where drumming or other music could continue until 10:00 PM), and loud talking in the parking lot (voices carry over to the neighbors’ property). Also, please be considerate by entering and exiting the site quietly.
A Note About Parking and Carpooling:
Please carpool if at all possible — there is limited onsite parking. If driving to the site, please park close to the adjacent vehicle, but be considerate of vehicles displaying disability license plates or signs. Once at the site, due to limited space and potential number of participants, we advise that folks leave most personal belongings in their vehicles.
Directions:
Take 520 eastbound to the Redmond Way/Fall City (WA 202) Exit. Turn right at the light at the end of the off ramp. Go approximately 5 miles on Redmond-Fall City Road . Driveway is on the right, 23301 (directly across from Guardwell Storage). If you pass Albertson’s, you have gone about 100 yards too far. When you first pull into the drive you should immediately see a large wooden sign that says The Longhouse; if you don’t you are in the neighbors’ drive.
